Jog-a-thon 2009
"Shiver Me Tennies"
The sun was shining on the students of St. Joseph Elementary School on Friday, September 25th, as they gathered for the 24th running of the Jogathon. Braving near 90° heat, 289 joggers logged 1, 558 miles in 90 minutes to benefit the Loyola Sacred Heart Foundation in support of Missoula Cathoic Schools.
Peter Szekely and Tony Madsen, 8th graders at St. Joseph Elementary School (SJS), circled the track 41 times and earned bragging rights as the top lap runners. Julia Downing and Maura Timmons, both 7th graders at the school, hauled in just under $4000 in pledges and helped their class earn top fundraising honors. Mike Crockett, homeroom teacher, and this hardworking group of students earned a ride in a Hummer limo to a swim party at Currents water park for their efforts. This annual event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for SJS and brought in an impressive $60,000. Weekly pep assemblies with a pirate theme included prizes, music and special guest appearances by University of Montana mascot Monte and his pal Slash of the Missoula Maulers, UM roundballers Shadra Robison, Misty Atkinson, Mathias Ward, Shawn Stockton, Will Cherry, Andrew Johnson, Michael Taylor and Eric Hutchison to keep spirits high and students motivated.
Congratulations to all of our runners!
