The “Heritage Project”
The Missoula Catholic Schools Historical Murals are a visual representation of the story of pioneering Jesuit priests, innovative Sisters of Providence, and a dedicated Missoula community who made great sacrifices to offer Catholic education to thousands of area students since 1873. It is also an affirmation of the heritage of the best of both the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence and the Sisters’ ideals and determination. Their innovative educational philosophy and passion for justice helped shape our schools and community landscape. Since their arrival in the Northwest, the Jesuit Fathers and Sisters of Providence established schools, colleges, hospitals, orphanages, homeless shelters, and many other enduring institutions that addressed critical social needs. The intent of the mural project is to bring the significance of their work to light and inspire a new generation of young people to respond to the call of those in need.
